Pius Langa Scholarship Recipient- Focuses on the Positive Aspects in Life
Falling ill a few days before writing her final matric exams did not deter Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting student, Ms Mishka Ramlagan from achieving her best and being named one of the Top IEB (Independent Examinations Board) Achievers nationally. This achievement has earned her the Pius Langa Scholarship awarded at the Scholarship Awards Ceremony held recently.
‘Shortly before finals I had been suffering with bronchitis and had to be put onto a third course of antibiotics two days before my first exam. This resulted in me losing out on a large amount of precious study and revision time.’
However, Ramlagan did not let her illness demotivate her, instead it pushed her to focus and not lose sight of her goals. She expressed great gratitude on receiving the scholarship as she believes it is what drives high academic performance in the country.
‘This prestigious award serves as a reminder to me that hard work does get rewarded and is the key to success which is why I strive to give off my best in any task’, she said.
Ramlagan attributes her determination and success to her supportive family and excellent teachers who have always helped her be the best and achieve honours in academics.
Looking to the future, Ramlagan plans to complete her qualification and proceed to qualify as a chartered accountant (CA). She enjoys travelling abroad whenever the opportunity arises to learn about other countries and their cultures. She also plans to get involved in community outreach projects to assist those who have not received the same opportunities she has.
‘I take great pride and joy from making a difference in the lives of those who have not been blessed with the same opportunities as myself by helping them during my vacation breaks with my time and knowledge.’
